MUMBAI:The Indian BPO industry should move beyond its current USP of being cost effective and re-brand itself in terms of value addition, competition and innovation. This was one of the main recommendations of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) meeting that concluded today. With wages continuing to rise at 10-15 percent coupled with shortage of skilled manpower, the cost effective model no longer holds good. As per a McKinsey report, the BPO industry is set to grow up to $1.2 billion from the current $0.3 billion in the next two years. IACC said that both private and public investments in infrastructure were required to meet the need of the BPO industry. One of the most serious threats for Indian BPO companies comes from the hidden cost of poor infrastructure, the IACC said. On creating a secure environment, the IACC said an effective mechanism should be implemented for information sharing among industry, government and other interested parties.
