BIG Cinemas wins CineAsia award

Mumbai: BIG Cinemas, part of the the Anil Ambani-promoted Adlabs Films Ltd, will be given the 'Exhibitor of the Year' award at this year's CineAsia-2008 convention in Macau, China. The award will be presented Dec 11, the last day of the three-day event that would bring together Asian cinema industry professionals, including cinema owners, film buyers and distributors. It will also present 'Awards of Distinction' to Asian film stars and the industry luminaries. For the first time, an Indian cinema chain is being honoured at the CineAsia for its achievements, a company statement said. After pioneering the IMAX experience in India, BIG Cinemas recently launched 3D and 6D technology and is the only cinema chain to screen films in all three formats. It will also launch the first megaplexes in the country shortly. Commenting on the honour, BIG Cinemas chief operating officer Tushar Dhingra Tuesday said the award was a stimulus for him to raise the bar and revolutionise cinema viewing in India. "We will continue with our pioneering initiatives to live up to our promise of providing a big experience to all moviegoers," he added.
