BHEL bags order worth $39.2 M from GAIL

NEW DELHI: India's state-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd said on Monday it had won a $39.2 million order to supply centrifugal compressors to state-owned Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL). GAIL is India's largest natural gas transportation and marketing company. A BHEL statement said the order was meant for GAIL's HBJ Pipeline Upgradation Project (Phase I) and would be installed at Vijaipur in central Madhya Pradesh state. The HBJ pipeline transports natural gas from India's western coast over nearly 2,000 km (1,300 miles) to northern Uttar Pradesh state. New Delhi-headquartered BHEL, India's largest power equipment maker, said the project is slated to be completed in 13 months. The company, 67.72 percent owned by the Indian government, said in April it expected sales to rise 10 percent in 2002/03 (April-March) and had an order backlog of Rs 12200 crore. Its shares were down 2.26 percent at 168.30 rupees on the Bombay stock exchange while the benchmark index was 1.6 percent lower.
