NEW DELHI: State-owned engineering major Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged a 4 billion order to set up a captive power plant in Rajasthan. The plant will come up at Hindustan Zinc Ltd's (HZL) lead zinc smelter plant in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. "BHEL has won an order valued at nearly 4 billion for a 154 MW captive power plant to be installed at HZL's upcoming Chanderia Lead Zinc Smelter Plant in Chittorgarh," the company said in a statement Monday. The power plant, comprising two units of 77 MW each, is being set up to ensure continuous supply of electricity to the lead zinc smelter and make it more cost effective. "While the first unit will be commissioned in 18 months, the total project will be completed in a very tight schedule of just 21 months," BHEL said. BHEL's work for the project would include the design, engineering, manufacture, supply, installation, erection, testing and commissioning of the power plant. Major equipment to be supplied for the project includes two 77 MW steam turbine generators and pulverised fuel fired boilers with state-of-the-art controls and instrumentation, associated auxiliaries and balance of plant equipment.
