NEW DELHI: Engineering major Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged a 160 million order from Tata Iron and Steel Company Ltd (TISCO) for a steam turbine. State-owned BHEL will supply a 30-mega watt (MW) steam turbine for TISCO's captive power plant at Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. The new turbine will help augment the power generating capacity of TISCO's existing captive power plant at Jamshedpur, BHEL said in a statement Friday. "The order comes close on the heels of a prestigious contract secured by BHEL for setting up a 120 MW thermal power plant at Jojobera in Jharkhand from Tata Power Company Ltd," it said. The new steam turbine will replace one of the old turbines at TISCO's 90 MW Power House-III and will be coupled with the existing generator and auxiliaries of the unit. The equipment will be manufactured and supplied by BHEL's Hyderabad plant. The TISCO unit is slated for commissioning by BHEL, a power equipment major, in a tight schedule of 20 months. The order envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply and installation of a new 30-MW steam turbine besides dismantling and re-erection of the existing generator with the steam turbine.
