KOLKATA: Infocom Network, a B2B venture for the export and importing community, is planning to set-up physical infrastructure in prime international markets to facilitate trade by Indian companies, reports Economic Times. What Infocom is planning to do is to act as outsourcing agencies for the Indian companies whereby it will provide logistic support, customs clearing and even till the ultimate distribution stage of the good in the international markets. Supposedly a first business model in its class in India , Infocom will be setting up the first such warehouse at New York in April, 2004. Plans are also afoot to set up such ventures at London , Hong Kong and Dubai in the next fiscal (2004-05). “The entire logistics would be quite cost competitive for the Indian companies in exim business. For, we will be shipping goods in bulk which would lead to much lower shipping charges. It will be like working as a subsidiary for the Indian company in foreign markets,” Bikky Khosla, CEO of the company said. Targeted for the SME sector, Infocom is already in the process of tying-up with the Indian companies. The fact that the company is already in the business of B2B database management since 1990 with three EXIM directories to its credit, will act as the main advantage in this regard. “We have an up-dated database close to of one lakh exporters,” Khosla added. Though Infocom is promoted by Bikky Khosla, the noted venture capitalist Vijay Khosla, his elder brother, also has a stake in the company.
