Avtar Saini joins Topspin

BANGALORE: Mountain View, CA-based Topspin Communications announced today that it is setting up a research and development (R&D) base in Bangalore, India. Topspin has plans to invest up to $10 million to set up the India R&D center to do cutting edge product design work in the rapidly growing utility computing space. Avatr Saini, former Director South Asia for Intel will join Topspin as Vice President Asia Operations. Saini left Intel India early January. During his 22 years at Intel, Avtar worked in the Pentium processor design team and later on the Itanium processor, Intel’s first implementation of the 64-bit architecture. In 1999 he relocated to India to set up the Intel India Development Center, which employs 1,700 professionals and the centre is working on some of Intel’s entire product development cycles. With seven patents to his credit Saini’s core interest is product design. “We are very excited to be adding an accomplished industry veteran like Avatar to our team," said Krish Ramakrishnan, CEO of Topspin Communications. "Avtar brings to Topspin a unique understanding of product development, industry dynamics, technology roadmaps, and strategic management issues. He is a tremendous asset to the company and we look forward to having him be part of our core team in Asia." Tospin currently employs 110 engineers in the U.S. The India R&D center plans to recruit 50 engineers by the end of this year.
