BANGALORE: US-based Aventail, provider of SSLVPN (secure socket layer virtual private network) appliances and services, has chosen Bangalore to be the destination for its first R&D centre outside Seattle. The company plans to invest $5 million in this centre over the next three years and is also looking out for value added re-sellers (VARs) with security and networking experience in India. “After looking at many cities in India, we chose Bangalore because the network and security engineering talent available here is second probably only to San Jose,” said Evan Kaplan, president and CEO of Aventail. He said that with the Indian VPN market expected to grow dramatically over the next three years, there was a lot of opportunity for Aventail’s products. At the Indian centre, the company will primarily work on product and technology platform. “We will be working on the Aventail Ex-1500 product line and we hope to have a stand-alone product development within the next 18 months,” said Kaplan. Along with plans to increase its staff from the current number of six at the Bangalore centre to 75 by the end of 2004, Aventail is aiming to expand distribution with continuous investment in regular VARs in US, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Their customer base includes Sanyo, Pepsi, Caterpillar and Ernst & Young. (Source: Economic Times)
