Asian IT ministers to land in Cyberabad

BANGALORE: As Asia gears to become one of the largest markets in the world during the coming years, the policy makers of different countries in the continent are coming together to frame a blueprint and share best practices and discuss and debate issues concerning across borders. The 2nd Asia IT Minister’s Summit 2004 (January 12-13) running concurrently with the Dubai World Trade Centre organized GITEX Hyderabad (January 12-14) will provide momentum to the exhibition according to a press statement issued by the organizers. "The DWTC is dedicated to meeting and exceeding the needs of show visitors and are focused on enhancing our show’s profile and the staging of this summit provides visiting delegates as well as participating exhibitors at GITEX Hyderabad with an opportunity to stay abreast of emerging technology and R&D in the IT industry," said DWTC General Manager Exhibitions, Leasing and Operations, Abdulla T. Qassem. He noted that the summit brings together IT Ministers from leading Asian economies in exploring ways to collaboratively develop Information Technology. "The summit will encourage trade as well as R&D activities in the field of IT and play a significant role towards the development of industrial cooperation in the IT sector and we are pleased that the event is timed to coincide with GITEX Hyderabad," Mr. Qassem remarked. Randeep Sudan, CEO of AP First & the Special Secretary to the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, noted, "the state government has decided to leverage the three events — Gitex Hyderabad, iTech conference and ICT ministers meet — to design strategies for e-governance activities apart from developing the IT industry in the state. The Asian countries will share their expertise in e-governance activities, sustaining growth and expansion, human resource challenges and strategies." Among the countries that have confirmed their participation at the summit include Afghanistan, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Georgia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea (South), Korea (North), Kuwait, Kyrgystan, Laos PDR, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen. The last summit of IT Ministers was held in Seoul, S.Korea in 2002. To create a synergy between the two events, organizers DWTC will be operating shuttle buses between Hotel Taj Krishna and HITEX International Exhibition Centre to generate cross traffic between the two venues. GITEX Hyderabad 2004 will showcase an entire range of IT related products and services. While the main exhibition will retain its exhaustive focus on trade professionals, consumers looking to purchase computer equipment and electronic gadgetry can do so at the GITEX Computer Shopper that has been added as a new component to the event this year to target those seeking to purchase equipment for their personal use.
