Asia-Cryo Cell becomes LifeCell International

Chennai: Asia Cryo-Cell, an umbilical cord blood stem cell banking, research and therapy company in India, Monday announced that the company will now be known as LifeCell International. The company said the name change was done with the "primary objective to reinforce the brand and align its activities with the 'LifeCell' brand in domestic and international markets". With 30 centres across Asia, LifeCell is geared to become a major player in the international market in cord blood stem cell domain, a company statement said. "By 2009, LifeCell will have over 50 centres to cater to the Indian and international markets," Abhaya Kumar, vice chairman LifeCell, said. "Asia Cryo-Cell and its subsidiaries in the last three years have strengthened their presence through private cord blood banking, R&D, TRICell Stem Cell Centre for therapy solutions and clinical trials," he added. "The company is in the process of expanding its activities into public banking, adult stem cells and is signing-up with a few international companies for new concept services in stem cell technology." "All these activities will now be integrated under LifeCell International Pvt Ltd and LifeCell would become India's first and largest integrated stem cell solutions provider." LifeCell has accreditation from American Association of Blood Banks and "the change in corporate identity to 'LifeCell International' is being implemented across all markets with immediate effect", the company said. LifeCell has a license agreement and knowledge-sharing tie-up with CRYO-CELL International, America's major cord blood bank with one of the largest repository of banked samples.
