Bangalore: Arieso, a UK telecoms services firm promises to help mobile operators reduce their carbon footprint after securing fresh funding aimed at helping it accelerate the development of its new network management technology, reports BusinessGreen. The company specialises in technology designed to help mobile operators analyse their data traffic in order to identify potential hotspots for network congestion and scale back on surplus infrastructure. The firm claims that enabling network operators to manage their networks more efficiently allows them to deliver significant cuts in energy use and carbon emissions. Arieso already has a number of high-profile customers, including AT&T, 02 and Telefonica, using its network analysis product GEO, and reports that trials for one US operator resulted in a 48 percent reduction in energy usage. According to Arieso, the company also delivered a 75 percent increase in data throughput and realised that up to 64 percent fewer sites required signal boosting technology. "This enables (network operators) to identify hotspots where infill network capacity is required, or where antennae positioning could be optimized to improve service and reduce power, reducing both capex and opex, " Arieso said. The company is expecting that demand for its technology will continue to rise thanks to the increased uptake of more sophisticated smartphones, such as the iPhone, and the launch of new wireless technologies such as the iPad. "Global data traffic is on the increase and showing no sign of abating," the company stated. "In the UK and US this data-hungry trend is largely due to the rapid uptake of iPhones, smartphones and wireless technology."
