MUMBAI: Arena Multimedia recently announced that the Center for Electronics Design and Technology of India (CEDTI) would provide certification in Multimedia to students completing Arena's Advance Diploma in Multimedia (DIM) on the basis of an exam to be conducted by them. CEDTI is an autonomous Scientific Society set up by the Department of Information Technology (DIT). Sudhir Mathur, head, Arena Multimedia said, "We are delighted that CEDTI will offer certification to our students. Certification to be provided by CEDTI is applicable to all students who have passed our Advanced Diploma in Multimedia (ADIM) course since June 2002. It also applies to those who had undergone the course 2 ½ years of training prior to that examination and had enrolled for the said course before 1st January 2001. This tie-up will enable our students the opportunity to receive an additional coveted certification." He further added, "The multimedia industry is on an upswing. With CII declaring the year 2002-03 as the Year of Multimedia, there is a growing impetus on providing quality multimedia training to close the demand-supply gap for trained manpower currently existing in the industry. With the current size of the entertainment industry alone being Rs 9,600 crore, and projected to grow to an estimated Rs 28,600 crore by 2005, the industry will be among the biggest employers. A proper and precise training in Multimedia can secure better career prospects in India and abroad Arena has already trained over 100,000 students to become professionals in the various multimedia industries such as entertainment, gaming, fashion designing, print and publishing. We aim to fill the demand-supply gap in multimedia professionals by training students worldwide." Arena will select ADIM students who fulfill the eligibility criteria for appearing in the CEDTI examination and will forward their names to CEDTI, which would then schedule examination for all such students. The examination would be scheduled on a periodic basis by CEDTI, and will test both the theoretical and practical knowledge of the students. Successful students will be awarded the "Certificate in Multimedia Technologies" by CEDTI. Multimedia is being adopted by a growing range of applications across business, education, entertainment, and information sectors. The global digital animation industry is poised to grow from the current $ 25 billion to $ 70 billion by 2005. An International Data Corporation (IDC) report projects computer and video games' sales at US $16.9 billion by 2003, excluding the estimated $1.1 billion that will come in as on-line games revenues. According to another research report, by 2006, a combined 529 million people across the world will play mobile, interactive TV and online games. All these figures clearly indicate a global need for trained manpower in the industry has therefore spawned a range of New Age Careers. Television and cinema, which have been linear, passive forms of entertainment in the past, are no longer the only entertainment media. Computers, video games and the Internet are fast becoming equally important and popular forms of entertainment worldwide. The applications of Multimedia are diverse and are extensively used in many industries such as Information Technology, Music, Entertainment, Film, Online Games, Internet, Education, Interactive services, Hospitals, and so on. The increasing use of Multimedia in these sectors is bringing about new career opportunities as well as other sectors that service them, like Advertising Agencies, new media companies, production houses, animation companies and many more.
