Apollo Tyres to establish new unit in Kerala

Kochi: Tyre major Apollo Tyres Ltd will invest 2 billion in a new unit to be set up at the state-promoted Irapuram Rubber Park near Kochi. Chairman and managing director of Apollo Tyres, Onkar S. Kanwar, Friday took part in a ceremony held at the park. The company will relocate an existing unit in Kalamassery near Kochi to Irapuram, which will allow it to increase production capacity to 200 tonnes per day (TPD) from 90 TPD. The new unit would come up on 25 acres and is expected to be ready in a year. The new plant would employ 1,800 people. It will produce truck, light truck and farm tyres for both domestic and overseas markets. The main plant of the company is located at Perambara in Thrissur district in Kerala, where production is expected to rise to 300 TPD in January next year from the current 270 TPD.
