Android to see a huge leap in 2012

Washington: Google's Android will become the most popular Smartphone operating system and will account for 49 percent of the market by 2012, technology Research Company Gartner said. The survey conducted by the firm said that worldwide Smartphone sales will reach 468 million units in 2011, a 57.7 percent increase from 2010, and increase to 630 million units next year to 1.1 billion units in 2015. With Google making the operating application available to handset makers such as Samsung, HTC and Motorola for free, it will turn out to be the most popular smartphone operating system (OS) worldwide. By the end of 2011 38.5 percent market share is expected which will rise to 49.2 percent next year and 48.8 percent in 2015. The company predicts that Apple's iOS for the iphone will hold a 19.4 percent share of the smartphone operating system and will remain the second biggest platform worldwide through 2014 although its share will decrease slightly after 2011. It will be followed by Nokia's Symbian with 19.2 percent. And blackberry will stand with 13.4 percent. Microsoft's Windows, driven by its partnership with Nokia, is expected to become the third largest in the worldwide ranking by 2013. Microsoft would account for 5.6 percent of the Smartphone market at the end of 2011 but will rise to 10.8 percent in 2012 and 19.5 percent in 2015. Garner stated that by 2015, 67 percent of all open OS devices will have an average selling price of $300 or below, proving that Smartphone's have been finally truly democratized. This struggle of the companies to explore the world of operating applications devises and market share will decrease the price and further benefit consumers.
