San Francisco: The Web 2.0 Summit is starting today in San Francisco. And for the next couple of days, the tech world will be looking forward to this event for some revelations from the tech giants like Google and Facebook. Among the most anticipated news are the Facebook's email service and Google unveiling its new edition of Android OS, the Gingerbread. The Gingerbread is the next version of Google's mobile platform, Android 2.3. And in all likelihood, Google CEO Eric Schmidt will announce its launch at the Summit on Monday. Let us take you through as to what the Gingerbread loads into it. There has been a graphical overhaul, trying to give the platform a prettier look, as it was criticized in its earlier versions to be uglier than competitions. The standard icons are redesigned giving the interface a neater look. The display of the carrier has become more prominent. Google's efforts to go green are very well reflected in the new OS. The mascot and the logo are set up in green color. Although the home screen retains the fundamentals, the green touch has been added here and there in the form of the Browser and Dialer buttons turning into lime color. Another important feature integrated in the Gingerbread OS is that of video chat. Google also has plans to integrate VoIP service directly into its mobile OS, provided carriers allow the same. Now with all these new features, the Gingerbread needs a hardware to exhibit its characteristics. Since news of the Samsung Nexus S launch is also doing the rounds, we hope Android users can soon upgrade to the new version of the OS.
