Bangalore: Analog Devices Inc. opened a new integrated circuit (IC) test development facility in Bangalore. The new facility will allow Analog Devices to carry out complete product development from India, ensuring superior product quality and faster turnaround time. The product life cycle for the chips starts from the business, new trends moving onto the engineers with the software being written for it. At each and every stage the performance and quality testing takes place. Testing is critical to the integrated circuit (IC) development cycle as it ensures that the final product meets the stringent quality standards. The India Product Development Center (IPDC), in Bangalore is involved in cutting edge technologies such as high-speed DSP IC design, Analog IC design, and Multi-media embedded software. Three generations of industry leading DSP SHARC processors have been developed here. Even for the Japanese markets, SHARC applications have been developed for home theatres for companies like Sony. The new IC test development center is equipped with state-of-the-art Automatic Test Equipment (ATE). This is the latest machine, which ensures the proper quality standards of the chip. "The computer output shows a green signal if the quality standards are upto the mark. Or else the feedback is in the form of a red in color giving the test results then and then," says Sai, Manager, Product and Test Engineering Group, Analog Devices. He informed that the testing time for each chip is 14 seconds and the future plans are to try to make it 2 to 3 seconds. The ATE is capable of doing stress testing at different temperatures, considering all types of climates and countries. At the launch, Gerald McGuire, General Manager Convergent Platforms and Services Group, Analog Devices Inc. said, "We are looking to undertake the product development cycle entirely from India, and also ensure that our products continue to deliver high quality standards." With this the engineering team can guarantee that the products work, he further added. Dr. Reddy Penumalli, Managing Director, Analog Devices India said, "India is moving to become a product development center, from earlier being a services provider. This new IC test development facility is a step forward in IC design as well as developing competence."
