An SMS service now guides you the right direction.
Bangalore: Bangalore is a rapid developing city with a population of around eight million people. And in such a big city, finding ways to reach a particular place becomes an arduous task. A resident of Kengeri may have no clue about how to get to the 10th cross at Koramangla, and asking a stranger is always not a wise decision. In order to help people in Bangalore to track a simple route to their destination, an Indian startup named the Onze Technologies has started providing location-based services (LBS) via SMS. The serivice called 'Latlong' will help people to navigate their ways within the city by providing the desired directions through SMS. One just needs to SMS "latlong" to 90088 90088 to get detailed information on his/her queries (http://www.latlong.in/"). Sudarshan HS, CEO, Onze Technolgies says, "Latlong service needs no advanced mobile phone or GPRS/Wireless connectivity like other LBS providers and can be used in the simplest of mobile phones. It has always been the aim at Onze to provide a niche technological solution, which can be used by all levels of customers," he explains. A very interesting aspect about the service is that unlike most special mobile services, an SMS to Latlong will cost you the same as your normal SMSes and not be charged extra. Apart from directions and landmarks, the Latlong SMS service also informs users with the distance between two locations. Sudarshan was inspired to found Onze Technologies, after having experienced the navigation problems across the city personally. He co-founded the company in September 2007 along with three other friends Pavaman Athani, Sairam Rajamani and Rahul RS. The company has received an initial funding from an angel investor. Prior to this, he had a rich experience of 13 years in the IT industry, most of which was with Infosys. Currently, Onze Technologies has a team of 13 who work towards improvising the day-to-day navigation problems of common people. Though the service will be formally launched in June, the company has already started seeing an increased popularity amongst the users. Sudarshan HS said, "Though the service is currently available in Bangalore, with the growing market for Latlong SMS services, the company plans to expand its operations across major cities in the country in the near future."
