Amul posts 18 percent growth

NEW DELHI: The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, better known for its Amul brand, registered an 18 percent growth at 28.82 billion during fiscal 2003-04 that ended March 31. Addressing the 30th annual general meeting of the Anand-based federation, chairman V. Kurien said India's largest dairy cooperative could ensure that milk producers in Gujarat were able to achieve 15 percent higher prices for their produce. He said despite competition, sales figures were also up for several products sold under the Amul brand. Sales of butter was up 19 percent more, ghee, or clarified butter, was up 17 percent, milk was up 34 percent and ice cream was up 11 percent, he said.
