Bangalore: Aloqa, a developer of context based mobile solutions has raised $1.5 million in Series A funding. Wellington Partners led the round, and was joined by individual angels of the company. Along with the funding, the firm has announced the beta launch of its application for Android handsets, and also named Sanjeev Agrawal, Former Global Head of Google Product Marketing, as the CEO of the company.

"Aloqa solves both the search and discovery issues by utilizing a user's context - their location, time, preferences, and relationships - to notify them in real time of friends, places, events, and entertainment opportunities around them without delays," said Agrawal. Founded in 2007, the company has about 20 employees.
He said that the company's solution removes the need for consumers to type search terms into browsers or related mobile applications. The service offers real-time recommendations on local businesses, nearby friends, upcoming events and other points of interest. Currently, the Aloqa beta is available to Android users in the U.S. and Germany. The company plans to expand the application across some major mobile platforms by the end of 2009.
