Alopa Networks in pact with Comcast Corporation

BANGALORE: Alopa Networks announced Monday that it has been selected by Comcast Corporation, USA for deployment of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) primary line phone service. Comcast Cable is the third largest cable company in the United States serving more than 8.5 million cable subscribers. Comcast plans to introduce IP phone service in limited areas of the US market in mid-year 2003. "The addition of Alopa as a vendor in our VoIP deployments will enable secured voice provisioning for residential voice services", said Franklyn Athias, vice president, New Media Development for Comcast. The Alopa MetaServ platform enables secure provisioning of enhanced cable modems Embedded Media Terminal Adaptors (EMTAs) required for VoIP. The Alopa solution has been developed towards compliance with the latest PacketCable specification. Alopa will also provide its SNMPv3 Stack, other security (i.e., Kerberos) components, and mediation to the existing OSS and back-office components to improve operational flexibility and provide an efficient platform from which to manage the complexity of the Comcast system. PacketCable is a CableLabs-led initiative aimed at developing interoperable interface specifications for delivering advanced, real-time multimedia services over two-way cable plants. Alopa Networks is the first vendor to demonstrate secure PacketCable provisioning. By deploying a PacketCable compliant platform, Comcast can now ensure its IP phone service has the reliability, security, features, and fidelity to which their consumers are accustomed.
