Allianz Cornhill, an arm of Allianz AG, one of the world's leading financial service providers, has set up its first Indian software development centre in Kerala.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Allianz Cornhill will set up its operations in the exquisitely designed Chandragiri building in the Technopark. It has set up an Indian subsidiary, Allianz Cornhill Information Services Pvt. Ltd., headquartered in this state capital. "We are coming to the Technopark to build a software development centre as an extension of our in-house facilities in the U.K.," said John Knowles, chief information officer, Allianz Cornhill Insurance Plc. "During 2003 we will establish a core team and prove the concept by working on selected business systems. From that base we will expand in response to continuing growth in the U.K., and so as to maximize the opportunities the centre will offer. "We have no doubt in choosing Technopark for our investment of over half a million pounds. There is a good supply of well-qualified people seeking long-term careers in Kerala. The infrastructure is in place and proven." Welcoming the announcement, Minister for IT and Industries P.K. Kunhalikutty said: "The reform process in Kerala is gathering further momentum, strengthened by the faith that blue chip companies such as Allianz Cornhill have shown in Kerala. "This government's pro-industry attitude has been appreciated over the last two years and specifically as demonstrated during the recently concluded Global Investors' Meet." "We are delighted to have Allianz Cornhill set up operations in Technopark. Allianz Cornhill has a century old tradition of excellence," said CEO Technopark Rajiv Vasudevan. "After Ernst & Young Middle East, the decision by this blue chip trans-national organisation will provide a further fillip to our efforts to reposition Kerala as a leading contender for IT investment in India."
