Akshaya Bhargava resigns from Progeon

BANGALORE: Progeon head Akshaya Bhargava has put in his papers. Reasons for Bhargava's exit were not known immediately. Progeon is the business process outsourcing (BPO) subsidiary of Infosys Technologies Ltd. Infosys did not comment on the development. Even Bhargava declined to comment. Bhargava took over as managing director and chief executive officer of Progeon soon after the inception of the company in November 2002. He succeeded Phaneesh Murthy, the former sales head of Infosys and head of Progeon then. Bhargava led the drive for end-to-end outsourcing and positioned Progeon to deliver results significantly beyond conventional cost arbitrage, centered on cost, efficiency and process re-engineering improvements. Progeon in the first six months of this fiscal earned revenue of $38 million as compared to $43 million in the entire in 2005. Prior to joining Progeon, Bhargava had served for over 22 years with Citigroup in assorted roles. He is credited with the creation of Citibank's BPO captive (e-Serve International Ltd) in India in 1991. Infosys has appointed Amitabh Chaudry in his place and he will take over in March.
