Coimbatore: Akamai Technologies, a provider of high level solution for online content and application development in its recent study titled 'State of the Internet report' on India states that the country had just two unique IPs per 1,000 people on average, whereas internet penetration in India is expected to improve significantly in the coming years as a result of economic boom and IT adoption. "The kick-start is still the broadband penetration. The country's high broadband IP per capita is .00001 (one IP with speeds above 5 Mbps per one-lakh people). The percentage of connections with speeds less than 256 Kbps is 26 percent," Sanjay Singh, Managing Director, India operations, and Vice-President, Akamai told Business Line. He further added that India is a key market for Akamai and its Application Accelerator used by customers to run various applications and IP Application Accelerator (designed to address core Internet weaknesses) have opened up a new market for the company.
