NEW DELHI: Ruling out disinvestment of Air India and Indian Airlines in the near future, civil aviation minister Shahnawaz Hussain said Wednesday the draft document on privatisation of four metro airports is ready and would be placed before the Union Cabinet for approval soon. He was addressing a conference on strategy in aviation and tourism sectors in a changing business environment. Hussain said the joint venture route was being taken to privatise the airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai and the process. Earlier scheduled to be completed by March next year, the process is now expected to be over by October. He said the delay had been caused as the ministry had sought comments from various sections of government, the industry as well as the parliamentary standing committee on civil aviation. "We are also considering a proposal for attracting private participation in the development of non-metro airports as well," Hussain said. On disinvestment of the two airlines, he said there was no proposal in this regard from the disinvestment ministry as the "scenario was not conducive" at present. Even before September 11, the situation was not right going by the response received on the earlier process of AI privatisation, he said, adding that the two carriers were being restructured to meet the global challenges.
