Agilent opens Bangalore R&D center

BANGALORE : Agilent Technologies today announced the setting up of an R&D center in the city. Addressing the press, Chris van Ingen, President of Agilent's Life Sciences and Chemical Analysis (LSCA) and Senior Vice President, Agilent Technologies announced that the R&D center will focus on developing OpenLAB?a platform for facilitating integration between bio-analytical instruments (Agilent as well as non-Agilent products), the various process that run on them and the people i.e. the consumers who make use of the facilities. Agilent is one of the premier measurement companies globally and has measurement equipments in the fields communications, electronics, life sciences and chemical analysis. In addition, center will host a multi-disciplinary team for advanced technology, focusing on chemical analysis, molecular biology and software for creating novel and complex scientific applications on its bio-analytical instrument and software platforms. "The initial focus will be on liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry, but, over time, the center will extend R&D capabilities to other platforms, such as microfluidics, gas chromatography, and microarrays," noted Venkatesh Valluri, President and Country General Manager, Agilent Technologies - India. Ingen further pointed out that with its significant base for high-end R&D in such sectors as pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, India represents a significant growth opportunity for the company. "We will continue to endeavor to develop next-generation technologies that address productivity and efficiency in scientific and engineering operations for Indian customers. Agilent's launch of this center demonstrates our strong commitment to the life sciences and chemical analysis markets and builds on its 60-year heritage of delivering innovative tools and solutions," he noted. Agilent's fields of focus in India span communications, electronics, life sciences and chemical analysis. Currently, Agilent in India has close to 1,300 professionals engaged across Marketing, Sales and Customer Support, R&D, Engineering Services and Support and Transaction Processing. It hopes to ramp up its India headcount to 2000 in the next two years, with an investment of $35 million earmarked for the company's growth.
