Bangalore: Adobe is all set to 'animate' the mobile market next year. Naresh Chand Gupta, Managing Director - R&D, Adobe Systems India said that company is already in talks with Indian cellular operators for bringing more zing into their Value Added Services (VAS). This will be done with the help of Adobe's Flash Cast; operators will be able to introduce a variety of small animation services, such as weather information to their subscribers. The Hindu Business Line reported this today. While the mobile user base has seen an unprecedented rise in the past few months in India, the ARPU (average revenue per user) has dropped steadily from 400 last year to 250 this year. This indicates that subscribers are mostly low-end users, and hence the need to target them with simple, light applications to bring about a hike in the average revenue. Adobe's Flash Lite (from the Macromedia acquisition) allows gaming and mobile application providers to develop quick Flash-based applications such as m-coupons. It is also expected that the move will encourage the development of vertical-specific applications such as ATM-like interfaces on the mobile, which in turn will perk up the m-banking industry. Engineers at Adobe's Bangalore based R&D center are working with partners towards developing such applications. "We are also looking at data-oriented applications. Many people may be accessing the Internet for the first time over the mobile. We want them to have a good experience," said Gupta told Business Line. He further added that the Bangalore center had worked on two products - Captivate and Contribute, which have tasted success in the global market. While Captivate allows subject matter experts to create a demo quickly, Contribute is a web collaboration tool. Adobe India has filed 50 patents over the past four years, he said. The company is looking for 2-3 acres of land in the city to build a new facility.
