Accenture bullish on India

CHENNAI: Accenture, a $14 billion global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, today formally inaugurated its Chennai delivery center. The 2,500-seat capacity center started operations in January this year, and currently has around 800 employees. As demand increases, there is scope to expand to around 5,000 employees over a period of time, said a senior company official without giving a timeframe. Karl-Heinz Floether, Group Chief Executive (Technology and Delivery), Accenture, said globally this year the company recruited around 40,000 employees, and of this 30 percent were in India. There will be higher growth in locations such as India compared to other centres globally, he said. As on August 31 globally Accenture had 115,000 employees. In India, the company had around 15,000, including 5,000 in BPO (business process outsourcing), in Bangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai, says a company press release. "We are delighted and impressed with the growth we have been able to achieve in this country. India is a key node in Accenture's global delivery network," Floether was quoted in a press release. Accenture in India is having an attrition level at all businesses of 20 percent (for every 100 people 20 leave the organization), including BPO operations. This was quite high, said Floether. It would be good to have a 12-15 percent attrition level. "If it is higher, we are losing track, and if it is lower, we are not improving quality of workforce." In Chennai, Accenture will hire technology graduates and IT professionals with skills in open systems (.NET and Java), host centric systems (mainframes), enterprise solutions (SAP, Siebel and Oracle), testing, business intelligence and data warehousing. The company will also recruit professionals for its BPO operations, with an initial focus on those with finance and accounting skills, the release says.
