A TV remote that acts as a censor
London: Parents need not fret anymore on what their children watch on TV in their absence. Thanks to a new remote, designed by scientists at Arizona State University in Tempe, that has sensors fitted into it. The sensor fitted TV remote can identify individual members of the family and so offer personalized viewing options and restrictions. The designing team, led by Magdiel Galan, at Intel Labs, has modified an ordinary TV remote into a new remote with sensors attached. In the testing sessions, the volunteers identified themselves by entering a PIN in every one out of five sessions. The peculiarity with which each person uses the remote, helped identify them in the remaining sessions, with an accuracy of 60-90 percent. This paved a way to personalize access to content on TV. The new device will be presented, next week, at the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
