Bangalore: In a highly prejudiced approach, five of the leading nations have issued travel advisories to its citizens warning that there is a propensity of terror attacks during the festive season in India. Despite being in good diplomatic relations, U.S., UK, New Zealand, Canada and Australia have warned their people to exercise caution when travelling to India.
India
It's viewed as an unfair comparison by the Western countries, pushing India to the league of some of its neighbors plagued with constant terrorist attacks. Earlier in the month of August, U.S. had issued a travel advisory cautioning its citizen from travelling to Pakistan, warning that the strong presence of terror groups in the country poses a potential threat to Americans. However, it should be noted that the terrorist and insurgent movement in India has been steadily weakening over the years. According to the South Asia Terrorism Portal, the fatalities due to terrorist activities have declined to a large extent. A total of 1,902 deaths were registered in 2010 as against 2,232 in 2009, and a peak of 5,839 in 2001. With three major terror strikes this year, 49 deaths are registered so far. Thus, the figures indicate to the fact that it's a baseless fear by the Western nations and that their prejudiced approach only help in worsening India's image abroad.
