Bangalore: The latest industry data has revealed that 53 percent of notebook manufacturers prefer AMD's ATI Mobility Radeon graphics processors to power their notebooks. The data for mobile discrete graphics shows a 36.5 percent market share gain for the chip maker. AMD has also sold 87.27 percent more units quarter-on-quarter through the first six months of 2009. "As consumers increasingly demand greater visual computing capabilities in their notebooks, the market for discrete graphics is only expected to grow," said Jon Peddie, Founder and Principal, Jon Peddie Research, the organization that published the report. According to Peddie, the increase in volume is a testament to consumers' appetite for visual computing and manufacturers' readiness to satisfy it. Customer adoption of the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4000 series of graphics processors has increased across a wide range of mobile discrete notebook segments, including the HP Pavilion dv6T, Alienware M17, Acer Aspire 5739G, Toshiba Satellite M500, Sony VAIO FW Series, Samsung R522, Asus W90Vp-X1, MSI GX623 and Dell Studio15. On the future demand in the notebook market, Matt Skynner, Vice President and General Manager, GPU Division, AMD said, "We are moving into the back-to-school and holiday seasons, and there is also the upcoming Microsoft Windows 7 operating system."
