New Delhi: All India Radio has set up five community radio stations in the country's northeastern states - two each in Meghalaya and Nagaland and one in Mizoram, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Friday. The government has also liberalised the policy to allow voluntary and non-profit organisations, as also universities and research bodies to set up such stations, Information and Broadcasting Minister P.R. Dasmunsi said in a written reply. The policy allows licenses to be issued to only those non-profit organisations that have extended social service to local communities for three years. It also requires the community radio station to serve specific local communities.
