9 Indian think tanks to get $9 Million dollars
New Delhi: Nine Indian think tanks will receive $9 million from Canada-based International Development Research Centre(IDRC) and other organisations for engaging in policy research focussing on national, social and economic issues. The Indian institutions chosen include Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability, Centre for Policy Research, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Indian Institute of Dalit Studies, Institute of Economic Growth, National Council of Applied Economic Research, all located in New Delhi. Others in the list are Institute of Rural Management, Anand, Gujarat, Public Affairs Centre, Bangalore and Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy, Bangalore. The Think Tank Initiative was launched in 2008 by IDRC, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to support local think tanks "to produce high-quality research that will improve policies and, ultimately, contribute to more equitable and prosperous societies".
