Colombo: Eight Sri Lankan fishermen, held for illegally fishing in Indian waters, were released and handed over to the Navy authorities, while another five have been detained, officials said. Navy spokesman Kosala Warnakulasuriya said that eight fishermen and five boats, released by India on Monday, were handed over to Sri Lankan Navy by Indian coast guards at the international maritime border off the coast of Kankesanturai in the island's north. They were brought to the KKS Harbour last morning aboard a navy vessel, a report in the Daily Mirror said. However, five other fishermen were detained on April 7 for illegal fishing in Indian waters.
