New Delhi: The decision to allow 74 percent FDI (foreign direct investment) in India's telecom sector would allow good players to come in, Minister of Communications and IT Dayanidhi Maran. "The government took the right decision to allow 74 percent FDI in the telecom sector. I want good players to come in," the minister said on the sidelines of the inaugural of the Electronics and IT Exposition 2007. "The fact that outside companies are showing interest shows that the Indian telecom sector is growing," he said while referring to British telecom giant Vodafone's aggressive bidding in the Hutch-Essar acquisition tussle. "A lot of speculation is taking place on this and I am not part of this speculation. We want good growth and I want numbers. However, security remains our foremost concern. Who buys what is not my concern and I will not judge who is the best." The minister is slated to meet Vodafone's chief executive Arun Sarin on Thursday. "If he wants to meet me I will meet him. I don't know what he is going to discuss," said Maran, who is going to bring out the much-awaited semiconductor policy Thursday before the cabinet.
