70 sectors post over 10% growth

NEW DELHI: Indian manufacturing sector is on a roll with at least 70 sectors logging double-digit growth although the country witnessed a slow-down in exports, the CII's Associations Council survey said today. Out of 140 industrial sectors, 27 posted an excellent growth rate of more than 20 percent while 43 sectors grew between 10-20 percent. However, about 20 sectors reported negative growth, it said. Sectors like cast iron, pig iron, switchgears, castings, microwave ovens, cellular services and pharmaceuticals were amongst the fastest growing. High growth was seen in asbestos, cement, paints, motorcycles, alcoholic beverages, sugar machinery and other sectors as well. Of the 77 sectors, about 21 showed excellent growth in sales, 27 high growth and 23 segments reported moderate growth while only 6 recorded low or negative growth. Even as the manufacturing sector faces slowdown on the export front, only 13 sectors reported fall in growth, 7 sectors with moderate growth and as many as 19 sectors registering high growth rates, it said. Segements like industrial furnace, vehicle industry and automotive tyres performed well on the export front.
