New Delhi: The 22nd international conference on Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) design and the 8th international conference on embedded systems have been inaugurated with a galaxy of industry stalwarts in attendance.
In the keynote address, Abhi Talwalkar, President and CEO of multi-billion dollar LSI Corporation, said, "The development of the semiconductor industry in India needs to be viewed from the strategic value it can add. There are multiple opportunities for innovation that abound for the semiconductor industry to pick. For example, if mobile penetration is to grow beyond current levels, there needs to be towers in the remotest of areas of India. This could be made possible through advances in solar photovoltaic."
According to Rajiv Kapur, Managing Director, Broadcom India and Special Sessions Chair, VLSI 2009, "The industry is unanimous in the view that there is a big opportunity and the time has come for India driven and oriented innovation."
For the first time, organizers of the conference have introduced a special session called 'Made for India' forum which will showcase innovation targeted at the Indian market in the semiconductor space. There will also be deliberations on the road ahead and potential areas of focus, stated a press release.
A three-day technical program starting 5th January will feature keynote and plenary talks by industry leaders, technical paper presentations on VLSI design and embedded systems. It will be followed by a two day tutorial, design contest and EDA software contest.
The conference, considered as the largest such event across the Southeast Asian region, will have in attendance eminent personalities of VLSI, EDA and Embedded world like Abhi Talwalkar (President and CEO, LSI), Thomas W Williams (Fellow, Synopsys), Ajoy K Bose (CEO, Atrenta) and Prof Jacob Abraham (Texas University) will present the keynotes and special invited talks.
Sponsored by the VLSI Society of India (VSI) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) among others, the VLSI conference is a forum for researchers and designers to present and discuss various aspects of VLSI design, electronic design automation (EDA), enabling technologies, and embedded systems.
