'India to be the largest market for virtual desktops'

Bangalore: "India will be the largest market for virtual desktops by 2009," says Stephen Dukker, Chairman and CEO, NComputing. Currently, the country stands at the third position after U.S. and Brazil.
Apart from the corporate world, the virtual desktops demand in India has seen a growth in the government organizations and educational institutes. One of the players in the virtualization arena NComputing, who provides with both hardware and the software for virtual desktops, has seen a sale of around one lakh of its products in the country excluding its recent developments in Andhra Pradesh. Among that, 25 percent accounts from the BPO sector, while the rest went to the police departments, revenue sector, and financial institutes.
The company provides both hardware and software solutions on virtual desk which are designed to cater from a range of 8 to 30 users. Commenting on its competitors, Martin Booth, Senior Director of Business Development, NComputing says, "Companies like VMware, Intel and Citris do not provide both hardware and software. Moreover, we are targeting the virtualization of PCs and not of the servers so, we do not see any competition."
Headquartered in U.S., NComputing has plans of further expansion of its sales in India through its partners like NIIT and Redington. The latter shall enable the firm, which is present in India since 2007, to tap the tier II and tier III cities of the country. There are also plans of establishing support systems in the country though the exact time has not been fixed yet.
