Chennai: In an effort to promote rural areas in terms of being BPO destinations, a Tamil Nadu based rural BPO organization Fostering Technologies in Rural Area (FOSTeRA) zeroed on 'the rice bowl of the state' Thanjavur. After establishing a center at Krishnagiri, the company has opened a BPO center at Periyar Maniammai University intending to make it a rural BPO destination.
The center shall capacitate 25 employees in the line of data entry jobs and voice - based services. Ensured a pay upto Rs.3000 per month, students can engage in three to four hours of work. Hence, for a proper training of these students, National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) and Adventity will conjointly offer their help. Infact, as part of a Nasscom delegation companies such as Wipro, Syntel, Hewlett-Packard, Cognizant, HOV Services and U.S. Technology had recently visited FOSTeRA.
As reported in Business Standard, promoted by Santhosh Babu, Managing Director of Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Elcot), FOSTeRA shall also promote consulting services through taking up jobs from the IT/ITeS companies and allocate it to various colleges. And it has motivated many districts to tow the lines of it, as it stands as a model for rural development. Currently functioning in Krishnagiri the organization handles police data management work for the district and base survey work for the Karnataka government.

Is this FOSTeRA tied up with any bigger organizations such as WIPRO,TCS,SATYAM
etc. Just might be another way of outsourcing their third level consulting
services. In a way, they can outsource some kind of work (say the work that
doesn't impact the ongoing buisness operations which has very low severity
level) from their Clients. This inturn able to get the work done in low salaries
and it boosts the small cities with job oppurtunities.
