Switch on the pumpset through your mobile

Pune: Now, mobiles can take control over the pumpsets from anywhere in the world through a phone call.
The device called as 'Nano Ganesh' will be priced between Rs.560 and Rs.1700 will be commercially launched on 23rd September in Pune. The device helps a farmer to switch on/off the pumpset through a call made by a mobile or a land line phone or even a PCO phone from anywhere in the world.
Santosh Hiralal Ostwal, established a research and development center to develop the product in Pune in 1996. He developed a mobile modem, which controls the starter of the pump set. The modem along with a mobile phone, which interfaces a 440 volt system, is attached to the starter panel of the pumpset. On the deployment of the system, a pre-set code is given to the farmer to switch on/off the pumpset. In order to switch on the set a farmer has to call up the number of the mobile phone attached in the starter panel. One can confirm the availability of the power in the pumpset by a long beep sound, which will be signaled from the receiving end during the call Followed by the confirmation of availability of the power, the caller has to dial a preset code provided for the user to switch on the pump set. Once the code is dialed the user has to confirm his function by a feedback tone and then cut the call. For switching off the pumpset, the same process has to be repeated and a different preset code is entered to switch off the pumpset.
To make the phones easily accessible to the farmer community, Santosh deployed basic phones like Nokia 1100. To ease the system of deployment, the company provides the buyer with a CD, an instruction manual and a wiring diagram along with the product explaining in a step by step way to fit and use 'Nano Ganesh'. The modem is also available with a theft proof inbuilt device called 'Nano Ganesh Hanuman', whereby its installation will also ensure alert in case of theft attempt near the pump area related to pumpset cable, panel or pump itself.
"Our next targeted states will be Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh," says Santosh. Currently, he has covered the outskirts of Maharastra, and already around 300 units of the device in the trial phase are sold till date.
Commenting on the product, Prakash Sayini, Business Development Manager, Nokia Forum says, "The level of innovation possible through mobile is seen in this product."

13: This kind of implementation already
there....and advance secure version is also
implemented.....

14: Hi its very good idea..... but one thing, if
there is a provision of reseting the preset
code it will be more secure, because if some
other person by chance knows the phone number
and preset code, he can contineously play
with that. So if the farmer is able to reset
his preset code it will be more secre to
him..... thank you and well done

15: Perhaps a sensor to determine if there is
water in the field or in a storage tank to
confirm the need to start the pump in the
farm or in the house as well.

16: you said is wonder but the government has
limited the timings over 7 hours a day to
the farm lands, in my view it may not be
useful to the farmers
it helps only at the places where u forget to switchoff at home etc. it will be useful.

space for a while. How is this supposed to be
a new innovation ? I have seen this video
spotted by IBN Live already ~2 years ago..

25: Good innovation and cost effective too. The
question is how effective would this be in a
country like ours where not many farmers are
literate. But with mobile usage rising in
rural India, things may take positive turn as
this is a valid utility statement for farmers
there.
Posted by: ann - 12:00 AM Sep 19, ' 08
26: Wow thatÂ’s wonderful, but we need to be
careful when the mobile is with kids , or if
the farmer is illiterate he needs to be
trained .

27: This is good utilization of mobile.
It can be used for locking/unlocking your car/house/shop/and other similar devices.
This can be attached with any other remote control and can be operated with far of distances . Applications are many and with imagination can be used while taking help of camera, sound, massages, signals, lights, voice,ra dio, television and any other mechanical ,electrical , telecommunication,information/news,magnetic fields, hydraulic controls etc for switching on/off any controls.

30: Excellent innovation, Your other article
states Indian's are over hyped as a
Innovation hub, does everyone feels it
correct. Congrats to Santosh Hiralal Ostwal
expecting many more innovations for the
farmers.
Posted by: arunramnath - 12:00 AM Sep 18, ' 08
31: Wonderful innovation! More such innovations
should be encouraged by the government. Why
our farming sector should be deprived of such
kind of innovations. We need more innovations
for the farming sector for more productivity.

has tremendous potential for so many
different uses. However, with misuse of
mobiles and such auto operating devices by
terrorists, precautions are needed.
