Gender inequality grips career women

Bangalore: The working women aura is gradually declining with their inability to shatter the gender glass at workplaces. A study by the Equality and Human Rights Commission revealed that women's representation in the industries has come down.
The sacrifices that a women have to make are immense and despite the years of efforts to push up their strata in every sector the gender equality battle is still fought. "The low representation of women is down to straight forward discrimination in some cases, but there are some fundamental ways in which our workplace culture still holds women back," Nicola Brewer, chief executive of the commission, was quoted as saying by The Independent newspaper.
The 'super mum' concept is being wiped out with the women opting for work at the cost of family, and hence raising doubts on the most admired power to balance both work and home. According to the report in the British daily, appointments for women in public sector fell from 35.5 percent last year to 34.4 percent. The proportion of professional bodies led by a woman fell from a third in the last report to a quarter. Amongst 25 categories surveyed, only 12 categories showcase women's foothold at the pedestal. Now, even when it comes to politics, wherein the people should stand for the equality sign, there is a vast gap in the representation. Most countries in the world have failed to give due space and representation to women in their political life. Women are moving in the direction of near equal participation in only a handful of countries, such as Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

I think woman who is a home maker is equally responsible and honorable as any
other working lady. Everywhere, home or office, they have to face challenges as
equal as any man. Its just that each of them will have different types of
challenges or each will see and solve the same challenges in different ways and
methods. Every entity in the society has to play a role with equal
responsibility hence its nothing to do with gender inequality. Many a times
its a woman who will be struggling to make sure that the family has enough
money when the husband is putting all his time and effort to achieve something
great or innovative in his life.. but thats how it is when something good can
be achieved.. most of the time in most of the systems, its the woman who
supports in the bad and windy times for the stability.. its just that all that
has to be appreciated so that the woman too feel good about their
responsibilities.. There is no point talking about inequalities, we have to make
sure that all the elements in a society are comfortable and aided so that some
thing good can be contributed by everybody.

Women have access to the best education . What they do with education is their
choice . I have seen a lot of women out of work because they find more solace in
family . This should not be viewed as a sacrifice . Women are smart and strong
enough to make the right choice . If they are happy doing it , why push them to
the work place ? Just because governments and self proclaimed women empowerment
interpret it as a sacrifice ' and 'Injustice ' . . I thought democracy was
about making own choices .

I am in Sudan, here i see most of the ladies are working, good positions, more
dominating than men.
I do not know which Gandhi dreamt here, ladies do walk on the road, without any
fear in mid night. The office shift is 8pm to midnight 12, ladies are in the
shift.
In the office, in the college, in bus stand or any place I have not seen any
lady is being teased. They are very well with full free will they talk to men
and work.
This is a country with islamic law.
In India, the shame is that they are not safe in the police station.
Why you vote to the people who think of weather to give reservation or not.
The male to female ratio is becoming improportionate.
The women must raise thair voice and ask for the lions share, not reservation.

We cannot comment, this on gender discrimination. In such cases like doing
night shift, strainous job and listening harsh words from the superior are not a
workable atmosphere for ladies. Where as men can pull on the job without any
mental strain.
It is wondered, why Indian ladies still thinking of gender discrimination. In
India, most of the ladies are well performed in their life compared to the men
in society. Just think of our late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, now there are
many chief ministers in Indian states.
In our family life also, any single person domination will ruin the homely
atmosphere. Co-operation between husband & wife will always brings joy and
achievement in our life.

i am working as a content writer in an IT company where i meet only an elite
class people, and i have observed that every one is 'so called' modern in all
the stratas of society. they still have doubts in women's capacity. even i have
heard saying "better if you select a man for the post because they are more
responsible" when i heard this, i could not get him. a woman can handle personal
and professional life simultaneously but still she is irresponsible. she carries
a child and work at the same time still she can not walk with males.
she is pushed back by such comments. though she can do everything, the society
pulls her to sit at home and behave in a typical manner-the way their in-laws
want.
and so i feel women need to take power instead of waiting it to be given.

Good article, taken out at a very right time when we are near to celebrate the
Girl Child day! Concept of gender discrimination is not at all new to the Indian
society, the girls are facing this discrimination since ages and it is not even
restricted to a particular section of society. With the recent example of Dr.
Neetu Khurana, it rather shows that the affluent and well educated people are
more conventional in their thought process. A child is made to understand the
concept of discrimination even before he learns to read. The falling figures of
women workers in the public sector further proves that the mental stratum of the
west too. The situation will not change until, we would realize the consequences
of it and we will not learn until it will fall on our heads some day, the way
Global warming has started affecting our lives!

India is no different when it comes to discrimination. In IT companies, women
are considered as a last resort to work in shift. Ask the PM and he will say:Its
a pain because women bring additional responsibilities and since the HP BPO lady
murder evryone is scared...u hv to take care of their safety and nothing can go
wrong...so there is an unwritten rule in almost all IT companies:Pls avoid
ladies for shift...
And same case for onsite...though she wold be equally competent in her work, the
PM assumes she has a family so she wouldnot want to go. A judgement without even
asking her. And the man get the first chance. If she grumbles abt it, she will
be considered next time. But not without a sarcastic smile

this is a true phenomena.. a thing that women has been trying to relieve
themselves from.. but the male dominated tag is still to be gone.. but check on
India, it still carries the super mum concept.. with every lady balancing it
really well..
