Software industry looking at Lucknow as next IT hub
By
IANS
Lucknow:The software industry's apex lobby group is looking at Lucknow as a future information technology (IT) hub, an industry official said Thursday.
The software lobby - the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) - and the Lucknow-based Association of Knowledge Workers (AKW) will jointly organise a national conference here Saturday to discuss how the Uttar Pradesh capital could be developed into an IT hub.
"The conference will focus on strategic planning for making Lucknow the next IT destination in the state after Noida," Jayant Krishna, chairman of the organising committee, told IANS.
Krishna, who is also the principal consultant with Tata Consultancy Services in Lucknow, said software hotspots in the country such as Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata are witnessing saturation.
"As a result, companies are looking at second-tier cities that can be developed as the next IT destinations," he added.
According to him, Lucknow fitted the bill, and is best suited for the business processing outsourcing industry among the second-tier cities, given its proximity to Delhi.

This is really a decision which brings lot of joy, happiness to the families of
peoples who are working away from home for many years.Uttar Pradesh produces
enormous talents all around india not in IT but in all industrial areas.
This initiative by NASSCOM will change the image of lko as political hub to
technical/IT area. I congratulate the software governing body for this wonderful
decision and hope that government would support them for the establishment of IT
companies in "city of nawabs".

It is a very healthy and prominent decision taken by the NASSCOM. As alone in UP
there are more than 90 engineering colleges through which alomst 15 to 18
thousands students get there degree each year. What you called a drain brain
happens with the State as these people migrates in several part of country to
earn and some of them also goes abroad. some picks higher education, some of
them looks for the job and keep on doing due to not availability in the region
they wants thats may be bcoz their family issues or some other problems.
I want to congratulate and appreciate their work.

Prashant

The next IT hubs should be in the north east (Manipur, Nagaland etc). North is
clean, beautiful, has a high literacy rate and vast amount of untapped
potential.

it's a great initiative. NASSCOM and local body should work together to make
this happen. if i am informed right, ansals is also coming up with an IT park.
there are lot of people in other metros who would love to return back to the
land of nawabs.

well thats a fresh idea .....palpability of the fact lies in the welfare of
every region than for searching potential areas ....potential is always found
out once u need it ....be it in lucknow or bhopal but wat matters is that how
far will we go with plans we hav today....i ll b the happiest soul if lucknow
could turn to a software hub ....

I dont feel it is a good idea.Lucknow will always have a laid back attitude &
far from Delhi,It will be great if Greater Noida is exploited to the hilt for
which there is enough planned space, & Techies will love the city because of its
planned growth,& provide much needed life style for him & his family, plus there
will be a mix of migrants from all over India & abroad which will bode well for
the industry. This is a visionary statement.

It is already very late most of guys from that region have been migrated.
The population burst is about happen in NCR.
Let see what is in future.
Miss Mayawati has to take some very bold steps for it which i thought is not
possible in this decade.

This is the right decision. Even the software companies should choose lucknow as
the next IT hub. It has the suitable environment for an IT city.
All other IT cities have grown upto their limit after which they cannot be
extended. From my perspective this decision should already be taken before and
implemented.

It needs to be seen which is a brighter solution ...
moving to tier 2 cities.. or fixing the problems in 'tier 1" citier that is
better :)

There is immense potential in lucknow. Its late but not to late . There are many
who are forced to move out of lucknow to earn there living in IT sector as there
is less oppurtunity. If lucknow arises there are thousands of professionals who
would love to come back home and live with there parents.
