Karnataka offers Tata 50 acres to shift Nano project from Singur
By    IANS
Thursday, August 28, 2008
Bangalore: Karnataka has invited Tata group chairman Ratan Tata to relocate the Nano small car project to the state, the government said Wednesday.

"The Karnataka government is ready to allot 50 acres of land adjacent to the 900 acres already given to the Tatas in Dharwad," cabinet spokesperson and rural development minister Shobha Karandlaje told reporters.

The Tata group's Dharwad facility in north Karnataka has been in operation for a decade.

Karnataka is the latest to offer land for the Nano project after Ratan Tata's statement that the group may shut the newly set up facility at Singur in West Bengal if the agitation over land acquisition continues there.

With this, Karnataka joins Gujarat, Maharashtra, Orissa, Punjab, Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Haryna in trying to get the prestigious Rs.15-billion ($375-million) project.

1 If Tata move out to some other state it will affect the whole nation. Political
issues should be avoided otherwise India will not be able to attract more FDI in
future. It has created a bad impression on India foreign countries will keenly
look into this issue.

2 Good for people of Dharwad-Hubli. There is a lot of local talent pool of workers
and a lot of sick industries. This will give a boost for local economy. The
people of dharwad are very simple and only commi kind of threat is from Rait
Sangh ( farmers union which is close to West bengals Tirumul folks). If local
politicians able to kick the butt of these mostly illiterate group (by any means
!!) it will be win/win for everyone.

4 I fervently hope that TATAs shift their NANO project out of WB to any other
place in India and then the general public should politically punish the
responsible. This will drive the message to the self-serving politicians that
India has a rule based polity (I hope it is) and that long term decisions do not
run on narrow, whimsical ways of few.

6 If West Bengal loose this project then they loose the opportunity for getting
better project in future. This is the Golden opportunity for West Bengal. While
chief minister of West Bengal trying to resolve the problem but some stupid
fellow trying to damage the project and job opportunity.
