iPhone to be priced@ Rs.31,000

Bangalore: Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who had promised at Worldwide Developer's Conference on June 10 while unveiling 3G iPhone that it would be made available at $199(8Gb), is no more to be true in India. Now Indian consumers, who have been waiting based on Jobs' promise have to pay Rs. 31,000 for 8 Gb and 16 Gb for Rs.36100.
The pricing is made available to the customers who have already made their booking on July 25. One of the Vodafone message says, "Your wait is about to end! iPhone 3G arrives on August 22. 8Gb model is for Rs. 31,000 and 16 Gb for Rs.36100."
Earlier, the Bharthi Airtel operators said that they would make iPhone available in India at Rs.20,000, they are further breaking their promises. Both Vodafone and Airtel will be launching the iPhone on August 22 and industry experts say bookings and pre-launch interest suggest that they would be able to sell over 100,000 phones in the next 12 months. Companies like Vodafone, which opened bookings for the phones in July, have already received booking requests of over 10,000 phones.

This is really bad on their part being such a big company and inspite of making
huge profits APPLE is trying to cheat people and trying to make too much of
money...I wud rather ask people not to go for these I-PHONES by putting up such
a huge price..I wud say NOKIA & many other big companies are offering excellent
features with these prices...

As usual, the CARTEL of Mobile Phone Operators is on work. Even though INDIA has
the one of the largest numbers of customer base of mobile phones and achieving
the biggest growth in terms of increase in number of mobile subscribers, these
FEW BIG MOBILE PHONE OEPRATORS, are not satisfied with the money they are
making. They want to keep ripping off the Indian Customers as much as they can.
Sadly, we Indians do not boycott or protest against such exorbitant prices.

Get your Iphone from SE Asia or from Ebay for about 20K! Why do you want to pay

Even in UK, iPhone 3G is available at nearly 250£ with 18 months contract...so
i think if airtel or vodafone wants than thay can give in 20k-25k but than
consumers have to bound with such long contract....

Please don't mislead people - in US, Apple iPhone sells for $199 with a 2-year
contract (minimum plan $70 or thereabouts per month). There was no indication
from Apple or Vodafone or Airtel that they will maintain the same price range
WITHOUT the contractual agreement.
People in the industry always believed that 8GB would fall under 25K - 30K
range. Expecting an iPhone 3G for INR 8500 ($199) is UTTER FOOLISHNESS.

When I spoke to Airtel folks in Hyderabad, he spurted initially telling me that
it would be close to 30k figure.. but soon, on the same call, after confirmation
from his colleague corrected that it would be close to 20k.. of course with no
commitment that what would it really be.. b'se he himself was part of retailing
for Airtel he was puzzled enough.. but this broad day "speculation" or "wishful
expectation" may NOT be same on D-day.. if its 30k and above, I am probably
better off with my laptop with EDGE on my phone around the same cost.. it may be
even better on the laptop than searching for things on the 3inch 3G "burden" ..
