Sify gets bigger with new data centers

Mumbai: Sify Technologies is planning to invest Rs. 250 crore in setting up two data centers in Mumbai and Delhi. The company has taken this step to double its network in the country from 380 to 800. "We are setting up a data center in Mumbai and (another) near Delhi. We will be doubling our network (point of presence) to 800," a top company official told the media.
A data center is a facility that is used to house computer systems and associated components such as telecommunications and storage systems. The work for the Mumbai data center has reportedly started. According to Sify, the data center spreads over an area of one lakh sq ft. The setting up is expected to get over in 15 months.
The construction for the Noida center will also begin within a short time as told by Sify official. It will be a greenfield project of 30,000 sq ft area. The company has been allotted 17 acres of land in Chennai and it plans to set up a Special Economic Zone (SEZ). "We are planning to offer export-oriented services through the SEZ," the official said. The company generates almost 10 percent of its revenue from exports.

"Last year too, we had more than doubled our network from 180 to 380." according to Sify. Sify will be hiring 500 more employees this year, which will make its present team of 2,500 more efficient.
