Panel coined for preserving e-contents

New Delhi: Realizing the long term use of digital contents, India is now looking to initiate programs to preserve such contents, reported The Economic Tmes. Initially, Ministry of Communication and Information technology has set up a committee on National Digital Preservation Program (NDPP).

The committee is expected to submit its report in the next three months and final recommendations would come out after six months following an international workshop on the same.

PS Narotra, director, department of IT, said "We would call all the international organizations and Indian stakeholders to have a discussion, and it would give us a direction to formulate our plans further."

The use of digital information is increasing from day to day as it covers almost all walks of human life such as education, research, governance, health, commerce, financial sector, multimedia, audio and video. Such information mostly will have long term use. For instance Pharmaceutical companies need off-line electronic data storage for 50 to 100 years for research and development purposes while in aerospace industry, aircraft designs have to be retained for the lifetime of each aircraft (30+ years). Besides this, scientific and cultural is kept forever to enhance research and track changes in the Earth and the cosmos.

Comment 1: The establishment of a committee on IT Digital preservations. In your information`s text says " Mr. P.S. Narothra, director, department of IT, said "We would call ", - is a biggest Lie? til date I had repeatedly requested the concerned authorities at all levels to give details and to register my name for the coming session at Hyderabad in Dez. 2008 was til date without reply, than we can see whom does the Director Mr Narothra invites? To develop a healthy future for Indian developments needs pre-thinkers in the interest of future generations which are missing in the Indian Government IT Organisational cos.? and avoid Critical views from people/Interested persons etc. and deliver with report that, the talks were sucessful? is nothing other than hoaxing the People of India? I hope a better wisdom ,may fall upon the Director before his open talks on the subject?
