BPO firms in India to cross $1 Bn mark

Bangalore: Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector in India is growing faster ensuring a steady development. Many of the big players in this sector are going to enter the billion dollar club, reported The Economic Times.

Avinash Vashistha, CEO, Tholons said "Large players manage to create a big impact on clients and employees and are serious contenders for mega deals".

Genpact, a business processing firm running towards the billion dollar mark which reported a revenue of $823 million for the year 2007 with an year on year growth of 34 percent. However WNS, with a revenue of $460 million and Aditya Birla Minacs with a revenue of $392 million are just behind of Genpact in meeting the mark of $1 billion. Analysts find that the contributing factor to the growth of the BPO sector in India, is due to the success of Indian IT service companies like TCS, Infosys, and Wipro. They are now capable to compete with the international IT giants like IBM, Accenture and HP.

The Indian IT majors have already crossed the billion dollar mark. While the IT firms took almost two decades to cross the $1 billion mark, the BPO firms are moving towards the target much faster. "The BPO journey in India has been from the early part of this decade coinciding with the globalization," said Milan Sheth, Partner, Ernst & Young.
