Patna: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi plans to write a book on the Emergency so that it can throw light on "many untold stories and interesting events that are not known to the younger generation".

"I am writing a book on the experiences and harsh reality during the Emergency," said Modi, who described the Emergency as a black chapter of Indian history after Independence.

Modi claims that his book on the Emergency will throw light on many untold stories and interesting events that are not known to the younger generation.

He said that his book will be a jail diary and it will be published by next year.

Modi, who is senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader, was a student leader in the movement led by Jai Prakash Narayan in Bihar against imposition of the Emergency.

The Emergency denotes the 21-month period between June 25, 1975 to March 21, 1977 when then president Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, upon advice by then prime minister Indira Gandhi declared a State of Emergency in India under Article 352 of the Constitution. It is considered to be one of the most controversial periods in the history of Independent India.
