Dell India set to capture domestic market

Bangalore: Witnessing a boost in the growth of Dell's PC market share to nine percent, the company is all set to expand its manufacturing pant located in SIPCOT, Sriperumbdur. Dell's third manufacturing plant, the new one has a capacity to accommodate about 800 milion units of desktops.
While addressing the media witnessing the traction of PC market, Sameer Garde, Country General Manager, Dell India said "the Indian notebook market is expected to grow beyond 50 percent beyond 2009."
To boost the sales Dell's five R&D centers in Austin, Shanghai, Taiwan, Singapore and Bangalore is innovating with new products. Each of the Asia centers is located based on the core competencies, where Shanghai focuses on Desktop, Taiwan in Laptop and Severs, Singapore in Printer and image processing, and Bangalore in Enterprise product. Commenting on the innovation, Vivek Mansingh, Country Manager and Co-Site Leader, Dell India R&D Center said "India center has filed more than 400 information disclosure in 2007." To foster innovation, Dell India R&D has academic tie ups with BITS Pilani, NIIT Suratkal, and IIT Chennai.
In terms of boosting its sales, Dell is adopting direct plus strategy, where Dell's channel partners bring in 10 times growth in 22 cities in India. Moreover, with its new joint venture with its retail initiative with Tata Croma, Dell is boosting its direct marketing with more retail joint ventures.
As Dell has witnessed a tremendous growth in India and position themselves as second in X86 servers, the company is focusing its growth in SMBs and consumer market. "We see a tremendous opportunity in BFSI, Government and Schools. As there are more than one million in the country and the government is boosting the ICT, we hope this niche market will grow," said Garde.
Vice President and Managing Director, Dell International Services (DIS) India Ganesh Lakshminarayanan said "DIS India started seven years back in Chandigarh, Delhi Hyderabad, and Bangalore ha grown 12 times. Now it is handling very complex services like IT procurement, KPO analytics, and Process Engineering for multiple locations."
