Fire guts 100,000 cotton bales in Gujarat
Ahmedabad: A massive fire broke out outside a textile processing unit of Chiripal Group in Piplaj near Ahmedabad Monday evening, gutting about 100,000 cotton bales. No casualty was reported.
"The massive fire is still on and it would take until tomorrow (Tuesday) to extinguish it," said fire chief M.F. Dastoor.
He told IANS that despite all efforts to control the fire, fast blowing winds were fanning the fire leading to the destruction of cotton bales. Nearly 30 tankers are fighting the blaze, he said.
Dastoor said the cause of the fire was unknown. Over 100,000 cotton bales were lying outside the Chiripal processing unit and all of it was destroyed, he said.
