3 Indian Americans Raise $3 million for Congressional Seats

Bangalore: Three Indian American legislational contestants raised a combined amount of more than $3 million for their election campaigns, for the current year.

Dr. Ami Bera, who is contesting in the 7th District in Elk Grove, Calif, against the current GOP Congressman Dan Lungren came up with an amount of $1,103,157 in 2011 and $918,873, cash on- hand.

Bera was the chief medical officer for Sacramento County. He said in a press release that he has “nearly twice as much cash-on-hand as Congressman Lungren, who has spent all but $521,205 of what he raised.” He also pointed out that he has “out-raised” Lungren for “10 consecutive fundraising quarters.”

Ricky Gill will be contesting against Tom McNerney in the 11th Congressional seat in San Joaquin County. He stated in a press release that he collected an amount of more than $955,000 in the year 2011.He was the member of the Board of Education in California and is also a small business owner and farmer. By the end of the previous year he raised nearly $200,000 and entered the present year with $840,000 cash-on-hand.

Raja Krishnamoorthi will be competing in the 8th district of Illinois against Tammy Duckworth. Raja, who was the state deputy treasurer in Illinois came up with an amount of $1.01 million, reports Chicago Tribune.
